The Battle of Uhud involved approximately 700 Muslims against 3,000 non-Muslims from the Quraish. The conflict began with individual duels, where Sayyiduna Ali al-Murtada karramallahu ta'ala wajhahul karim and Sayyiduna Hamza radiyallahu ta'ala 'an defeated their respective opponents. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ distributed a sword to Sayyiduna Abu Dujana radiyallahu ta'ala 'an, who fought with great intensity, though he refrained from striking women. The Muslims initially gained the upper hand, causing the Quraish to flee. However, the tide turned when the archers stationed on the mountain, contrary to the explicit orders of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to remain in their positions regardless of the outcome, abandoned their posts to collect war spoils. Khalid bin Walid, observing this, led a cavalry attack from behind, trapping the Muslims and inflicting heavy casualties.
During the confusion, the rumor spread that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had been killed, which caused some Muslims to flee, others to become paralyzed with grief, and a few to continue fighting with renewed determination. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ suffered injuries to his face, and two of his teeth were broken by a stone. Despite the severity of the situation, he continued to make supplications for his enemies, stating they acted out of ignorance. The battle concluded with the Muslims eventually regrouping and the Quraish retreating. The aftermath saw the mutilation of Muslim bodies by the Quraish, including the body of Sayyiduna Hamza radiyallahu ta'ala 'an.
